Coimbatore: Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy said action will be taken to ban all online gambling portals and arrest those who run them.

The Chief Minister, who arrived in Coimbatore from Chennai to inspect coronavirus preventive measures in the Nilgiris and Tirupur districts and open and inaugurate various developmental projects, was welcomed at the Coimbatore airport by Minister SP Velumani, MLAs and government officials.



Speaking to reporters at the airport, the Chief Minister said that the demands of the people of Coimbatore district are being met. Flyover projects are being carried out at various places such as Ukkadam flyover, Sungam Junction and Kavundampalayam. When asked about many committing suicide due to online rummy, he said in the interest of the public, the government will take steps to ban all online gambling portals and arrest those who run them. CM added that these online games are ruining the lives of teenagers and pushing them to the brink of committing suicide. He said the government would take steps to ban online rummy.

When asked about Actor Vijay's alleged move to form a political party, the CM said it is Vijay's right and there is nothing to say about that.

Speaking about the release of 7 prisoners in the Rajiv Gandhi murder case he said it is under the authority of the Governor and only he can take a decision. He criticized Stalin for speaking about the issue. He accused that in 2000, during the DMK regime, when the release of the seven people was demanded, the cabinet rejected the release of all except Nalini. The DMK cabinet decided that they could be punished while the AIADMK decided to release them. He said the AIADMK government is working diligently to secure the release of the seven.

He said permission has been denied for Vel Yatrai as the Central and State Governments have enacted a law that processions and public meetings should not be allowed in Tamil Nadu. He said he cannot say anything about the posters insulting DMK leader Stalin as they were put up by unknown people.

Responding to a question about reopening of schools in TN, he said that consultative PTA meetings would be held and the schools would be reopened as per decisions taken in those meetings.

A heavy traffic snarl was witnessed on Avinashi Road as a large number of volunteers gathered and parked their vehicles to welcome the Chief Minister.
