Coimbatore CPI(M) condemns police for allowing ruling party's protests and denying permission to the opposition parties

Leaders including Coimbatore MP PR Natarajan, District Secretary V Ramamurthy and State Committee member C Padmanabhan were present. A resolution was passed condemning the Police Department for refusing to allow protests held by opposition parties.

The Leftist party is observing November 7 as the day of the great revolution that changed the world. It is customary to hold events on this day, including seminars on behalf of the Marxist Party. The resolution stated that they had written to the C-4 Rathinapuri Police Station asking for permission on behalf of the Marxist Party to hold this year's pledge taking program near the Sivananda Colony water tank with social distancing due to the Coronavirus threat. They strongly condemned the denial of police permission for this.

The ruling party has staged demonstrations in more than 10 areas this week. They questioned if the lockdown orders do not apply to the ruling party. They also questioned how the police allow the ruling parties in Coimbatore to place flex banners when the High Court has issued a ban on doing so. TheDistrict Committee also condemned the police ban on posters by opposition parties and organizations and the permission for the ruling party to put up posters throughout the city.

They also urged that all parties should be allowed to protest. The District Committee also strongly condemned the police ban on posters by opposition parties while allowing the ruling party's banners .

They said that they strongly condemn the anti-democratic actions of the City Police, which acts only in favor of the ruling party and religious organizations.
