Coimbatore: In the preliminary report for metro train service in Coimbatore, it has been decided to add a route to the Vellalore bus stand, officials said.
TN Chief Minister announced that in view of the increasing traffic congestion in Coimbatore, action will be taken to run a metro train service here.
Following this, the Chennai Metro Train administration conducted a preliminary study on the possible routes in Coimbatore. The report is currently being prepared. This report is to be submitted to the Government of Tamil Nadu soon.
According to an official with the district administration, the metro train is planned on 5 routes in Coimbatore for a total distance of 136 km. The 5 routes would cover Avinashi Road, Mettupalayam Road, Thondamuthur Road, Trichy Road and Sakthi Road.
In this context, a route to the Vellalore Integrated Bus Stand is also being explored. Once the Chennai Metro Train administration submits this report to the Tamil Nadu government, the next step will be taken, the official added.

This is the Coimbatore Metro - Four corridors with a 136km connectivity network. The plan in the DPR has some clashes with the Ukkadam Flyover which are being worked out.
Overall, this will be how the final metro rail network will look, if the project gets implemented soon.
