Minister SP Velumani inaugurated the 11-kiloliter liquid oxygen cylinder and administrative office building at the ESI Medical College Hospital, Coimbatore, at a cost of Rs 35 lakh. He inaugurated the Coronavirus Post-Care Unit and an additional Coronavirus Treatment Unit with 135 beds in the nursing home in ESI.
The damaged administrative office of the hospital has been renovated at a cost of Rs. 35 lakhs and oxygen and other facilities have been provided for the benefit of 80 patients. In addition, the Medical College Nursing Hostel has been renovated at a cost of Rs 2 crore.
With an existing capacity of 450 beds, these additional facilities have now created 215 new beds and are ready to treat coronavirus patients. The RT PCR testing center at Coimbatore ESI Hospital has been testing 500 samples daily and an automatic RNA extractor worth Rs 27 lakh has been installed and is now set up to process about 1,500 samples per day.
Earlier, the ESI hospital was using 2 kilolitre oxygen cylinder capacity. Now, an 11-kiloliter oxygen cylinder worth Rs 52 lakh has been installed to treat patients with coronavirus infections. This will enable the hospital to provide adequate treatment even if a large number of people come with lung infection.
About 8,100 COVID patients have been admitted to the ESI hospital so far and 7,550 of them have fully recovered and returned home. He also said CT scans have been taken for about 7442 people at the ESI Hospital.
