Coimbatore: Coimbatore Valankulam Lake Development Project: Barbed wire instead of wall for public safety
Coimbatore: Corporation Commissioner said that in the Coimbatore Valankulam Lake Development Project barbed wires will be placed instead of wall for safety of the public.
Responding to the news on Dinamalar on 31st October, Corporation Commissioner said a wall was erected in 2016 by Cabion Technology near the Sungam Junction on the north side of Valankulam Lake. There was no development work carried out during the time of construction of the wall.
Under the current Smart City project, projects are being planned and implemented in the Coimbatore Corporation to improve the entire area and to make the banks of the Valankulam more secure. The previously built wall prevented access to the lake and the current project aims to transform the lake into an easily accessible place for people.
Also, through this project, this area will be the gateway to the north part where the Sungam Lake Garden will be located. The previously constructed wall was 5 feet high. As the space will be used by the public commonly the wall previously erected was opaque. In order to change this wires are to be installed in place of the wall to make it safer for the public.
Corporation Commissioner and Special Officer P. Kumaravel Pandian also said that work is underway to set up a Sungam gate as the entrance to the lake.
