The Nilgiris: Councillors protest against the chairman of Melur Panchayat in the Nilgiris
The Nilgiris: There was a stir in Melur, Nilgiris area as members of the Melur Panchayat near Coonoor in the Nilgiris district staged a sit-in protest in the assembly hall on Wednesday condemning the chairman.

Protest against Melur Panchayat Chairman Renuka and Regional Development Officer Raman was held with a sit-in protest at the Melur Panchayat assembly gall, where a total of 12 out the 15 members of the panchayat, led by Melur Panchayat Deputy Chairman Nagaraj, claimed that the new Panchayat Secretary had been interviewed for the job without forming an appointment committee.
Melur Panchayat Deputy Chairman Nagaraj said that he had lodged a complaint with the district administration on the 19th of this month. He added that the protest was conducted as no action had been taken. He also added that they would continue to protest until the appointment of the Panchayat Secretary is carried out after conducting a personal interview per protocol.
