District Collector Rajamani had ordered the demolition of damaged government and private buildings in Coimbatore district. Following this, work was in full swing to identify them throughout the district. In the study, 223 buildings were found to be damaged.
Four people were killed when a two-storey building collapsed on Chetty Veedhi near Ukkadam in Coimbatore on September 6th due to heavy rain. The incident caused great fear among the people of Coimbatore district. Following the incident, the District Collector ordered immediate demolition of damaged buildings and the ones that pose danger to the public in the Coimbatore district.
Local government officials, revenue officials and public works officials have been actively inspecting the condition of such damaged buildings in all the areas. District administration officials said, "As the Northeast monsoon season approaches, work is in full swing to identify damaged buildings in the district. Accordingly, 223 buildings in Coimbatore district have been found to be damaged and 13 buildings have been demolished so far."
