Coimbatore: A young man hung himself to death in Coimbatore for fear of being arrested in a theft case.
Adaikaapan (29) was working as a plumber in Vijayamangalam area of Erode district. His wife is Nagammal (25). The couple relocated to the Kasturinaickenpalayam area near Vadavalli four days ago.
Adaikaapan stole a woodcutting machine from the company where he worked and hid it. The management came to know about this and enquired him. He then confessed to stealing and told them where the machine was hidden.
Under the circumstances, he was afraid that the administration would file a theft complaint against him at the police station. At around 12.30 pm yesterday, he told his wife Nagammal that he had a headache and asked her to buy medicine.
Upon her return, Nagammal found the house locked from the inside and knocked the door. When there was no response, she broke down the door of the house with the help of those nearby and was shocked to find that Adaikaapan had killed himself by hanging from the beam.
Later, following a complaint lodged by Nagammal at the Vadavalli police station, the police recovered Adaikaapan's body and sent it for an autopsy. They have registered a case and are conducting further investigations.
The incident in which a youth committed suicide by hanging himself for fear of being arrested in a theft case has caused shock in the area.
