Gokul (40) lives on Kallapalayam Karpaka Vinayagar Road near Sulur. He works for a company that makes animal feed in the same area. Gokul, who left for work at 3 pm yesterday, returned home at 10 pm. He found the door of his house open and saw his wife fast asleep.
He heard the sound of someone trying to open the cupboard and when he went to the room where it was, he was shocked to see that an unidentified person was trying to steal the things inside. Gokul caught the unidentified person and raised an alarm. His wife woke up hearing him screaming and nearby residents came running. They then thrashed the thief and informed the police.
The Sulur police arrived at the house and interrogated the person involved in the attempted burglary. His name is Nandagopal and he belongs to the Kangayam area. He also said that he had loaded maize from Kerala and brought it to a fodder factory in the area. As it was getting late to unload the fodder, he had tried to steal from Gokul's house which was kept open.
He was then unexpectedly caught red-handed. When the police checked the lorry he was driving, they found that the plates bearing its registration number were destroyed. The police confiscated the lorry on suspicion and are investigating Nandagopal. The incident caused a stir in the area.
