The Chennai Meteorological department has forecasted heavy rains in the Nilgiris and has issued a red alert. Following this, 40 members of the disaster rescue team led by Inspector Ganesh Prasad have rushed to the Nilgiris.
As a precautionary measure, more than 200people from Thenvayal, Iruvayal and Puramanavayal tribal hamlets have been moved from their villages and have been accommodated at the Attibele and Putthurvayal government school buildings.
Further the District Administration has ordered government officials to be ready as heavy rains continue to lash near Maanjoor and Avalanche.
