The Nilgiris: With incessant heavy rains in the Nilgiris, 283 areas have been identified as potential land slide areas, informed District Collector Innocent Divya.

The Chennai Meteorological department has forecasted heavy rains in the Nilgiris and has issued a red alert. Following this, 40 members of the disaster rescue team led by Inspector Ganesh Prasad have rushed to the Nilgiris.

As a precautionary measure, more than 200people from Thenvayal, Iruvayal and Puramanavayal tribal hamlets have been moved from their villages and have been accommodated at the Attibele and Putthurvayal government school buildings.

Further the District Administration has ordered government officials to be ready as heavy rains continue to lash near Maanjoor and Avalanche.

The District Collector has informed that 500 camps have been arranged to accommodate the affected people.
