Coimbatore: The Corporation Commissioner visited various zones under the Corporation and conducted inspections of the various COVID-19 prevention measures being undertaken.
Corporation Commissioner and Special officer J. Shravan Kumar visited Edayar street in Ward 80 of the Central zone along with flying squad members. He advised the public regarding the importance of wearing face masks, maintenance social distancing, avoidance of crowding in places and getting themselves tested.
As an extension of the COVID-19 prevention measures being undertaken in the district, the quality of the disinfectants at the Health inspectors' office in Raja Street of the Central zone of Coimbatore was inspected by the Commissioner. Officers have been ordered to send samples of the disinfectant for testing.
The Commissioner conducted a field visit along with a flying squad at the vegetable market in the Ukkadam Lorrypet area in the Central Zone. They advised the traders and the public to use face masks and maintain social distancing.
Following this, an awareness meeting regarding COVID-19 for the Women's self-help groups was held at the Primary School campus in the KK Pudur area of the West Zone. Chaired by the Corporation Commissioner, the meeting was attended by the Corporation Deputy Commissioner S. Madhuranthagi, other Corporation officials and members of women's self help groups.
Speaking at the meeting, the Commissioner said, "Under the guidance of the Minister for Municipal Administration S.P. Velumani the Coimbatore Corporation has been undertaking various COVID-19 prevention measures. As part of these measures, members of the women's self help groups in the West Zone will be employed to collect data pertaining to the number of people in the area arrive from other districts and states but don't quarantine themselves, persons of advanced age, heart patients, persons with kidney ailments, diabetess. They will also be used for identifying areas where people live in close quarters."
He added, "While working, the Women's self help groups must function in coordination with Corporation workers, maintain social distancing and use face masks and gloves. Pulse oximeters and thermal scanners must be used on those persons who are spotted with symptoms such as cold, cough and fever."
