Female Elephant Dies Despite Treatment in Thekkampatti Near Mettupalayam

Coimbatore: A female elephant found in an ailing condition in a ditch at Thekkampatti Odai Pallam, under the Kandiyur forest range near Mettupalayam, died on Monday night despite receiving treatment.

Forest personnel spotted the elephant during a routine patrol on Monday evening and alerted senior officials. A team led by Mettupalayam Forest Range Officer Sasikumar reached the spot and initiated treatment.

The elephant was treated by Forest Veterinary Officer Vennila and Assistant Veterinary Officer (Sadivayal) Prabhu in the presence of Coimbatore Division Assistant Conservator of Forests Vijayakumar and District Forest Officer Jayaraj.

Despite prolonged treatment, the elephant succumbed on Monday night. As it was already late in the evening, forest officials decided to conduct the post-mortem examination on Tuesday (August 25) morning.

The elephant, estimated to be between three and five years old, was found to be suffering from an illness. Forest officials said the exact cause of death would be determined after the post-mortem examination.
