Few days back, forest officials found an elephant with blood in its ears near Mettupalayam. Investigators arrested two men after they found out that they had shot the elephant.
Suspicions have been raised as many elephants keep dying in the same area.
Meanwhile, on the orders of the District Forest Officer and the Divisional Assistant Forest Officer, patrols have been intensified in the Sirumugai Forest Reserve at the Pethikuttai Division, Pethikuttai Circle, Uliyoor Circle, Koothampoondi, North and South.

Five special teams comprising forest officials are patrolling the areas to collect information on elephant pathways, agricultural lands and the types of crops grown.
