Number of cases through contact is increasing and this is a matter of concern - Kerala CM
Thiruvananthapuram: 193 new cases of Covid-10 were confirmed in Kerala today even as 167 patients undergoing treatment for the infection tested negative. The total number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Kerala is 5,624 and 2,252 patients are now undergoing treatment for the same.
Giving details, Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan also condoled the death of an 82-year old cancer patient at Manjeri Medical College who had returned after a Saudi visit and a 66-year old shopkeeper who died at Ernakulam Medical College.
In his comments, the Chief Minister said, “The number of cases through contact is increasing and this is a matter of concern. The number of tests conducted is being increased.”
A total of 1,83,291 people are currently under observation in various districts of the state. Of these, 1,80,316 are under surveillance in home or institutional quarantine and 2,975 are in hospitals. 384 people were admitted to the hospital, today.
In the last 24 hours, 9,927 samples were tested. A total of 2,75,823 samples have been sent for testing and the results of 4,179 samples are yet to come. In addition, as part of Sentinel Surveillance, a total of 60,006 samples were collected from priority groups with high public contacts and 57,804 samples were negative.
10 new places were designated as hotspots today and six places have been excluded from the list. There are currently 157 hotspots in Kerala.
