A 30-year-old reporter of a news daily has been admitted into the Tirupur Government Hospital day before yesterday night after he tested positive for COVID-19.
On July 2, he had gone to the Tirupur Government Hospital for treatment as he suffered from throat pain and was concerned that he might have caught the infection. The doctors who treated him asked him if he had fever. However, when the reporter informed them that he only had throat pain, they provided him with immune boosters and sent him away. Earlier he informed the doctors that since he is a reporter, he travels to various places and wishes to be tested for COVID-19, but to no avail.
Following this, the reporter developed other physical complaints and he went to the Palladam Government hospital and got his sputum test done and continued working for the next two days.
Day before yesterday, the health department informed him that he was COVID-19 positive and admitted him at the Tirupur Government hospital COVID-19 ward for treatment.
Following this, he has requested that five of his family members including his old grandmother, who cannot be transported to a testing faciliy, should be subjected to PCR tests immediately.
While the rate of the spread has been snowballing, complaints about ignoring the request of a person who wanted to get tested for COVID-19 due to his profession have surfaced raising the doubt what if everybody who wants to get tested voluntarily is being ignored in this manner.
