Sheikh Alauddin (18), son of Abubakar, hails from Coimbatore Pillayarpuram area. Around 8pm yesterday, he was traveling in a two-wheeler in the Kurichi residential area with a boy who lived near his home .
Four unidentified in two vehicles attacked him and tried to snatch his cellphone and money. In a tussle with them to save his belongings, the miscreants stabbed Sheik Alauddin in his head, neck and chest. The men then fled the scene.
Sheikh Alauddin, who sustained grievous injuries, has been admitted to a government hospital in Coimbatore. Podanur police have registered a case and cast nets to nab the criminals.
