Two days ago, a female wild elephant died in Lingapuram, in Sirumugai forest range. The weak and thin elephant was not able to walk properly for many days. Earlier, the villagers had seen it entering farming lands in Lingapuram and feeding on the crops.
They said the elephant never posed any danger and they allowed the jumbo to feed on their farms as it was too weak. It is said the elephant used to eat very little and go away on its own.
Youngsters from Lingapuram paid their respects to the elephant at the burial site by placing flowers. Villagers have placed banners in tribute calling the elephant as the fairy of the forests. The image of the elephant is being paid tribute by the villagers.
