Tirupur: Trade Unions including the CITU, AITUC, INTUC took part in protests held in Tirupur demanding that Labour Laws must not be changed.
Complaining that the Central Government has been intent on changing the Labour laws even amid the ongoing pandemic they demanded that the eight-hour work day must not be changed to 12 hours.
Further, they placed demands such as providing workers affected by the lockdown with Rs.7,500 a month for six months, distribution of free food supplies through the ration shops and controlling the hike of petrol and diesel prices.
The protests were held in front of the Tirupur Railway Station led by MP Subbarayan. Protestors held begging bowls in their hands during the demonstration.
