Coimbatore: Southern Railway has invited private entities to operate modern trains on 13 routes including Chennai-Madurai. The Railway Ministry has called for private entities to operate 151 modern trains in 109 routes across the country.

In a bid to turn the losses of Rs 40,000 crores per year that the Indian Railway faces into profits, the Railway Ministry has invited the private sector to invest in 151 modern trains.The private sector investment will create additional employment opportunities, with a turnover of Rs 30,000 crores per year, the Railways Ministry said.
Under the scheme, 26 trains will be operating on 13 routes in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. These trains have been called to run with frequency of once a week, once a day, once in two days and once in three days.
The routes are:
Chennai to Madurai
Puducherry to Secunderabad (way Chennai)
Chennai to Coimbatore
Tirunelveli to Coimbatore
Tirunelveli to Chennai
Trichyto Chennai
Kanyakumari to Chennai
Kanyakumari to Ernakulam
Chennai to New Delhi
Chennai to Howrah
Private companies like Bombardier India, Adhani Boards, Tata Realty, Francine, Alsthom, and Spanish companies Dulco and Mcguire are keen on taking up this project.
