Tirupur: A few TASMAC bars in Tirupur that have been violating the government-issued guidelines cause panic among the public with regard to the spread of COVID-19.
While the state is still under prolonged lockdown, the government has issued certain guidelines for the functioning of TASMAC shops. The government has announced that those who buy liquor at the TASMAC stores must observe social distancing and the attached bars must remain closed.
However, various TASMAC outlets functioning within the Tirupur Corporation have been operating their bars in violation of the government's orders. Allegedly, tipplers gather at these bars without wearing face masks and maintaining social distancing.
Of the hundreds of stores within the Tirupur Corporation, it has been reported that a majority have been operating their bars in violation of the government orders. Particularly, the bars near the Old bus stand, Dharapuram road and College road operate their bars.
Tirupur had been keeping the number of COVID-19 cases under control for some time; however, the number of cases has been increasing in the past few days. Earlier, the number of affected cases was 120; however, the numbers keep rising and are in the vicinity of 200.
This being the case, the public fear that the operation of the bars could lead to proliferation of COVID-19 cases in the district.
