Muthurajan, a resident of the Jawahar Nagar in Kavundampalayam was married to Manimekalai. The couple have two sons and one of them is married. Allegedly, Muthurajan had domestic disputes often.
Yesterday the couple got into an argument which led to a big fight. Following this Muthurajan, in uncontrollable anger smashed his wife's head with a stone when she was asleep. Manimekalai died on the spot. Muthurajan consumed the banned 'cow dungpowder' thereafter and killed himself.
On hearing the cries of the children at the house, his daughter-in-law Pavithra entered the house and saw her dead mother-in-law. When she spoke to her father-in-law who was struggling for life and asked what happened, he confessed to murdering his wife and his attempt at suicide thereafter. A shocked Pavithra informed her husband regarding the tragedy.
Following this, a call was made to the 108 ambulance. However before the ambulance could arrive, Muthurajan passed away.
The Thudiyalur Police have filed a case regarding the incident and are enquiring. The murder and suicide of members of the same family has caused shock and disbelief amid the relatives and the residents of the area.
