One of the country’s largest modern exhibition venues, Codissia Trade Fair Complex is being prepped to be used for 'Covid-19'treatment in Coimbatore. Minister SP Velumani has officially shared this information and the District Collector has also made inspection at the venue.
Coimbatore District Small Industries Association(CODISSIA) trade fair complex is a premier purpose-built trade fair centre in the southern India. It has 1,60,000 sq.m. of total carpet area designed to provide ideal setting for trade events.
There are five exhibition halls, open air theater, seminar hall, pantry and restaurant service, open ground space, car parking, power, fire safety and various other facilities.
Throughout the year various events like trade fairs and big weddings are conducted here but due to the lock down implementation since March 2020, the trade center now has been closed temporarily.
Since the COVID-19 infection rate is increasing each day and spreading fast across the district which includes people who don't have any travel or contact history, this has raised the alarm bells for the government to increase the bedding facilities. With many mathematical predictions announcing that October - November will be peak COVID-19 infection in India, preparations are underway to be ready for any eventual spike.
Already this intiative has been kickstarted in many private hospitals. In this scenario, the government has decided to use Codissia Trade Fair Centre for treating patients with mild symptoms.
Minister SP Velumani has said that, 'Codissia Trade Fair complex is gearing up to treat COVID-19 patients by creating a 400-bed facility in the first phase. Patients with mild symptoms would be given treatment at this venue.
Patients with severe infection and symptoms alone will be treated at ESI hospital. Apart from this, the district administration is gearing up to adding 17,000 bed facilities in the District. Various buildings would be used for this purpose.'
Before two weeks when SimpliCity asked CODISSIA about whether the venue would be used for Covid-19 treatment, the association said that it will inform once the government places the request.
CODISSIA President R Ramamurthy while speaking to SimpliCity said that "Yes, on Monday, District Collector gave the request and we immediately took this to our committee members and with their approval we have decided to give the venue for this government intiative. 'Hall D' has been given for providing treatment facilities. Tuesday Collector made a review in person at the venue and now the work of creating the bed facilityis underway.' He said.
