Secretary of the Central Housing and Urban Development Department Durga appreciates the execution of the Smart City projects in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: The Central Housing and Urban Development Department Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra has appreciated the outstanding execution of the Smart City projects in Coimbatore. A District Collectorate press release informed this.

Coimbatore: The Central Housing and Urban Development Department Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra has appreciated the outstandingexecution of theSmart City projects in Coimbatore. A District Collectorate press release informed this.

Smart City projects in Coimbatore District are being executed at a cost of Rs.1,000 crores provided by the central and the state governments. The scheme consists of 46 projects including the renovation of lakes and ponds, drinking water, underground drainage, solar power plants, setting up LED lamps, modern vehicle parking places, construction of model roads, renovating and enhancing the Ukkadam Periyakulam, Valankulam and Selva Sinthamani lakes, new power generation schemes and many other schemes. Notably, the Coimbatore Corporation has already won a national award for executing visually appealingbeautiful structures in Corporation limits under the Smart City scheme.

When the CM visited Coimbatore on June 25,2020, he inaugurated the completed project area constructed at a cost of Rs.39.74 crores on the banks of the Periyakulam lake near the Perur road at Ukkadam area the Rs.23.83 crore renovation project on the Valankulam banks for public use. The project includes a 5.50 km cycling pathway for recreational and fitness purposes, a 5.50 km walking pathway, people, four decorative arches on the lake banks, 47 snack stalls and many other small shops, vehicle parking, gyms for youngsters, synthetic playgrounds for children at three spots, small parks purified drinking water, toilet facilities, seating, name boards and sunshades, decorative lamps around the lake for a distance of 5.5 kms, green community halls at two places, solar panels at four places, two solar artificial fountains, 2 MLD Sewage treatment plants, police towers at seven places and many other facilities. It is believed that once the project is over, the place would become the pride of Coimbatore.

The Ukkadam Periyakulam lake bank and the Valankulam lake bank dazzled with colourful lights on the day the CM inaugurated the lake bank projects. The photographs of the event attracted the public and the nature enthusiasts greatly. The pictures went viral on social media and have been gaining much appreciation.

These projects have set examples for Smart City projects in other states, appreciated the Central Housing and Urban Development Department Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra.
