In a delayed but fair move, SI Raghu Ganesh who was involved in the brutality inflicted against father-son duo who died in police custody at Sathankulam has been arrested.
Six other cops including SI Balakrishnan, Raghu Ganesh, Murugan and Muthuraj and have been arrested under Sec 302.
The move comes a day before the hearing of the case at Madras HC (Madurai bench).
The Madras High Court (Madurai Bench) on Tuesday said that "In our opinion, the ante-mortem injuries found on the bodies of the deceased, coupled with the reports of the judicial magistrate no.1, Kovilpatti, statement of head constable Revathy of Sathankulam Police station would be prima facie enough to alter the case against the Sathankulam policemen, who were actively involved in the investigation of the case to one under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (murder)."
A bench of Justices P.N. Prakash and B. Pugalendhi ordered that the probe be immediately handed over to the CB-CID till such time as the CBI takes charge of the investigation and ordered to protect the woman cop Revathy.
The case was adjourned to July 2.
