In a press release, the Deputy Director said, "Under the auspices of the Coimbatore District Collector, inspections pertaining prevention of the spread of COVID-19 and treatment offered by private hospitals in Coimbatore are being done."
"Hospitals must ensure that all the patients and attenders are wearing face masks. Hand washing facilities with elbow taps must be in place at the entrance of the hospital with soap and soap oil. Charts explaining the hand washing techniques must also be there at the handwashing stations," the release added.
The release further read, "All the visitors should be made to sanitize their hands after handwashing and only then be allowed to enter into the hospital. Information Help desks (May I help you?) should be in place to assist patients 24x7. Patients and their attendants must maintain social distancing and the hospital must make arrangements for this.
Posters and notices detailing COVID-19 prevention measures and awareness must be posted all over the hospital. Visible signboards to all departments of the hospital must be there. Importantly, fever ward and COVID-19 testing areas should be set separately. Doctors, nurses and health care workers must be provided with the PPE."
"The hospital must collect medical waste and hand it over to the government approved medical waste collection company safely. The entire hospital must be disinfected once every two hours to keep away the virus. Patients who arrive at the hospital for emergency treatment must not be turned away without first aid provided they have not been tested for COVID-19. They should be offered first aid and must be directed to an appropriate hospital", said the release.
Treatment and disease prevention must be practised as guided by the government-issued guidelines during the treatment of fever and COVID-19. Details must be passed on to the Deputy Director, Medical and Rural Health Services, District Assistant Director, Health Services and the Corporation Health Officer.
Hospitals that violate the guidelines issued by the government will be acted upon under the Tamil Nadu Medical Institutions (Regulation) Act, 1997, Rules 2018, informed the release.
