Woman cop who gave witness in the Sathankulam father-son duo case feels intimidated now, fearing torture from seniors.
Kovilpatti Magistrate MS Bharathidasan who visited the Sathankulam Police on June 28 said that his presence was not acknowledged or welcome from the very time he entered the station with his staff. The station visit, along with other staff was meant to record the statements of police officers and gather crucial evidence.
The Magistrate mentioned that there was a female cop in the station who is an eyewitness in this case, but she divulged the information only after initially expressing serious apprehension and reluctance. She has revealed that the father-son duo was beaten throughout the night and added that the batons and tables in the station had blood stains on them. She also urged the magistrate to confiscate these objects before the evidence is destroyed.
The Magistrate’s report states that the lady cop feared about the repercussions and backlash she would have to face from her colleagues for testifying in this case. She had also requested the Magistrate to not reveal her identity or that she had given statements about the June 19 incident.
Although personalities from all walks of life and celebrities and commoners alike have heaped paeans on the courageous act of the woman police official, the 37-year-old female cop and a mother of two children is consumed with fear about retaliation from senior officers.
In an interview to The News Minute she said, ""People are praising me but I didn't want any of this publicity. I did not want my statement to the magistrate to be put out in the public domain and I put this request to them specifically. I really don't want to be tortured by senior officials."
Since her statement is very crucial to the case, the court has directed that she be provided protection. Despite the court's direction, she remains apprehensive. "I am worried that I am at risk. If they didn't put my name in the documents I would have been less scared. They told me they won't use my name, and since I heard they have used it, I have been very distressed," she lamented.
"I have told the magistrate everything and now I just want to ensure safety for myself and my family." added the bold cop.
