The woman, Mekala, was attacked by a leopard and sustained grave injuries in her leg. She was admitted at the Coonoor Government Lawley hospital.
The movement of leopards has increased in the area. Leopards have been spotted sitting on the rocks in daytime and strolling the residential areas in the nights causing panic among the public.
Mekala was working in the estate, unaware that a leopard had given birth to cubs. Threatened by her presence, the leopard attacked Mekala and bit off her arms and legs. Hearing Mekala's screams, the plantation workers who were working there rescued her and took her to the Coonoor Government Lawley Hospital and admitted her for treatment.
The Coonoor MLA Shanthi Ramu visited the injured woman at the hospital and enquired about her health. She asked the Forest Department workers to capture the leopard.
