The District Collector was also accompanied by the Corporation Commissioner J. Shravan Kumar, Deputy Commissioner Mathuranthagi, Revenue Divisional Officer Suresh, ESI Medical College Hospital Dean Dr. Nirmala, Deputy Director (Medical and Rural Health Services) Dr. Krishna, Assistant Director (Health services) Ramesh Kumar, Supervisor Dr. Ravikumar, Food Safety Officer Dr. Tamil Selvan, Tahsildars Mahesh Kumar, Arulmurugan and many others.
As part of the many measures being taken by the TN government to control the spread of COVID-19, the Coimbatore District Administration has geared up its preventive measures.
To provide the best in class treatment to the people affected by COVID-19, the Coimbatore ESI Medical College hospital has been converted into the COVID-19 special hospital and exemplary treatment is being offered to the patients here. Additionally, all private hospitals have been ordered to maintain special wards for COVID-19 positives.
Moving forward, asymptomatic patients who test positive for the virus will be sent to a 400-bed treatment facility that is being set up at CODISSIA. The collector visited this place and gave his inputs. The center will begin functioning this week. The center will function under the coordination and supervision of the Assistant Director (health). Doctors, medical workers and health workers will function 24 hours of the day in shifts at this center.
The spread of COVID-19 in Coimbatore has been traced back to the people arriving from other states and other districts like Chennai in vehicles and trains. Due to the cancellation of train and flight services, the number of people arriving from other places to Coimbatore District has gone down. Additionally, more tests are being conducted on people who arrived from other places. They have also been advised to isolate themselves. Further, family members, neighbours and people in contact with the COVID-19 positives are also subjected to undergo continuous testing.
The District Collector further visited the containment zones including the Coimbatore Metropolitan areas of Lalbahadur Nagar, Lakshmipuram and Periyar Nagar of Masakkalipalayam in person. He ordered for these areas to be monitored further and also ordered the Corporation and Revenue Department officials to facilitate seamless supply of essentials to the people in these areas. These areas also should be fumigated twice a day.
He enquired about the health of the people who have been placed under quarantine in these areas and ordered for them to be monitored. The District Collector then visited a private super market in the area and inspected if social distancing was being followed and if all the customers who visited the shop were wearing face masks. He also ensured that no air conditioning was being used in the shop. He further advised the officials to inspect the shops in their areas and to ensure that no air conditioning is being used there.
While at the ESI Hospital, the District Collector inspected the quality and quantity of the food that is being served to the patients. He taste-tested the quality of the food that was served to the patients and approved of it. He requested the Dean to monitor the quality of the food and to ensure that food is being served on time. He also went on to appreciate the work of the medical teams and the catering teams.
