This being the case, Velmurugan from Upper Parali Estate next to Valparai, his wife Manimegalai, 42, and sister, Valliyammal, 45, were working in the tea estate No. 8 near their house.
Awild gaur that visited the area unexpectedly attacked them, causing grievous injuries to them. Co-workers raised their voices and shooed the animal away. The injured were retrieved from the scene and taken to the tea estate clinic where they were given first aid and later transferred to Valparai Government hospital for intensive care. Forest department and police are investigating the matter. The incident has caused fear in the area.
