Speaking about the issue, District Chairman VMC Manoharan said that “although the price of crude oil is low internationally, the central government has levied more than 200% excise duty on petrol and diesel. It is not fair to levy tax burdens on the people, through the price rise of an essential commodity like diesel at a time when the public is suffering financially because of coronavirus.
Petrol diesel prices have been rising daily for the past 22 days. Congress Northern District Congress Committee urged the central government to immediately reduce the price of petrol and diesel and to reduce the excise duty on petrol.
