PM Modi to address the nation at 4 pm today

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation on June 30 at 4 pm. This is the PM's sixth address to the nation since the outbreak of the pandemic.

His address comes against the backdrop of a bitter standoff between Indian and Chinese troops  and the rising COVID-19 cases. 

With over 18,000 cases reported on Monday, India’s COVID-19 cases stood at 5,67,423. The death toll has rose to 16,882, while the number of recovered patients was over 3.35 lakh. The active cases as of Monday increased to over 2.15 lakh with Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu reporting high cases, following which their governments' have extended the lockdown till July 31

PM Modi in his previous address on  on May 12 had announced a Rs 20-lakh-crore financial package to boost the economy reeling under the coronavirus-induced lockdown.

On Sunday, in his monthly "Mann ki Baat" address, the Prime Minister had asserted that India has given a befitting reply to those who cast an evil eye on its territory in Ladakh. 

Briefing on the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, he appealed to the citizens to be more vigilant and abide by the rules to prevent themselves and others infecting. 

PM's earlier address after the pandemic: 

March 19 - The PM announced a "janta curfew" on March 22.

March 24 - He announced a 21-day nationwide lockdown. 

April 3 - The PM appealed to the citizens to light lamps for frontline corona warriors on April 5.

April 14 - He announced an extension of the lockdown period till May 3.

May 12 - The PM announced lockdown 4.0. Stressing on the need for India to become 'self-reliant,' he also announced an economic package worth Rs 20 lakh crore.

Now, the country is in the phase one of 'unlock' and the month-long phase 2 begins on July 1.
