Coimbatore: The Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (TPDK) staged a protest against the Central Government's announcement that all Cooperative banks in the country will come under the supervision of the RBI.
The Central government has announced that all the Cooperative banks, that are currently under the control of the State governments, will be brought under the supervision of the RBI. The TPDK protested this announcement and staged a protest in front of the Cooperative Urban bank of Mettupalayam on the Mettupalayam Ooty road.
"If Cooperative banks are brought under the RBI then the loan assistance being availed by farmers currently will be affected. Further it is a move by the Central Government to interfere in the rights of the State governments", they accused.
They also cautioned that, "If the RBI takes over the Cooperative banks then all the job opportunities at these banks will be provided only to North Indians."
"This is a move to spoil the job opportunities of the people in TN", they charged and demanded that this plan should be given up.
