Tribal man from sadivayal killed in elephant attack
Coimbatore: In a man-animal conflict along the Pooluvapatti forest range of Coimbatore Forest Division, a tribal man was killed in a wild elephant attack, on Saturday.
Babu, a resident of Kalkothipathi tribal settlement in Sadivayal along with five others had reportedly ventured into the forest to collecthoney.
While they were returning back on Saturday evening, they had encountered a female elephant with its calf in close quarters. As the elephant began chasing them, everyone ran to escape, however Babu could not escape and was trampled by the elephant.
Meanwhile, the others rushed to their tribal settlement to seek help to rescue Babu. When they reached the place where the incident took place, they found Babu in a critically injured state.
They rushed him to a private hospital at Karunya Nagar. However, he died on the way.
His body was later taken to Coimbatore medical college for autopsy. The forest officials have initiated an investigation.
It is to be noted that Babu had been working in a temporary position in the forest department of the same forest range. The death of a tribal man due to elephant attack has caused immense grief among the villagers of Sadivayal.
