Chennai: Tamil Nadu Milk Agents and Labourers Association abandoned its decision to not supply milk to police households after an amicable decision was reached.
In a press release by Tamil Nadu Milk Agents and Labourers Association, President Ponnusamy said that the decision to stop milk supply to police households was taken after they caused several disturbances to the delivery agents during the lockdown.
He said there have been countless phone calls after the announcement and threats were issued by some pro-Hindu outfits. He said, senior journalist Ezhumalai had approached them saying it was not right to stop milk supply to every police household for the wrongdoings of a few and promised to take up the issue to CM Edappadi Palanisamy. Ponnusamy said that he assured him he would meet with the executives of their association and make a favourable decision. Following this, members of various organizations, including the Tamil Nadu Press Association, demanded the withdrawal of the decision to stop milk supply.
He said he received calls from several police officers and also the president of Tamil Nadu Vanigar Sangam Peramaippu Vikram Raja called and spoke about the difficulties faced by them and promised to take up the issue to Chennai Commissioner for an amicable resolution of the problem. Later, there was discussion with the Chennai Commissioner and a beneficial solution was reached.
Moreover, high-ranking officials of the police have assured that the police will be advised to cooperate fully with the milk delivery agencies who comply with the rules laid down by the Government of Tamil Nadu..
Ponnusamy said, "This was followed by a Zonal Meeting of our Union State Executives at around 10.00 pm. It discussed the demands put forth by senior journalists, Tamil Nadu Traders Association, press associations, various social welfare organizations and social activists."
He said that based on the promises by the president of Tamil Nadu Vanigar Sangam Peramaippu and Chennai Police Commissioner, the decision to stop milk supply to police households was withdrawn.
