In order to avoid congestion at this market, onion and tomato wholesale stores have already been shifted to the new bus stand opposite the market, while the remaining stalls are still operating at the old MGR market.
It was found that the traders did not wear face masks and follow social distancing. They also encroached rain water channels with sacks, causing a major concern for spreading of coronavirus
Already three from the market have tested positive. Therefore, the MGR market has been banned from yesterday (26.06.2020) in order to prevent the spread of the disease, said the Corporation Commissioner and Special Officer Sravan Kumar Jadavath.
West Zonal Assistant Commissioner AJ Senthil Arasan, Executive Engineer Saravanakumar, health officer R Gunasekaran, health inspector Srirangaraj and officials participated in the inspection.
Following this, he also inspected the RS Puram Uzhavar Santhai and advised the people and traders to wear face masks and follow social distancing. West Zone Assistant Corporation Commissioner and other officials were present during the inspection.
