A 63-year-old male from the Milekal area visited his relatives' house at the Manicka Tea Estate at Valparai and stayed there from June 1 to June 12. Later, he returned to Coimbatore. On arrival, he fell sick and was admitted into a hospital for treatment. However, he developed a fever and was then tested for COVID-19, which turned out positive. Following this he was admitted into the Coimbatore ESI hospital for treatment.
Based on this, the relatives' house where the patient stayed in Valparai was visited by the COVID-19 prevention team and the whole area was fumigated. A team led by Dr. Babu Lakshmanan conducted COVID-19 testing on 12 family members who stayed with him, including children.Sputum and blood samples of all persons who had been in contact with the patient were collected and sent for testing.
Hotels and residential areas in the region have been isolated now. Residents of the area have been banned from stepping outdoors for the next 14 days. The area is being closely monitored.
