On behalf of DMK, MP Kanimozhi handed over an ex gratia Rs 25 lakhs to the family of the deceased Sathankulam traders who died during judicial custody.
The Tuticorin MP also carried a letter from DMK leader MK Stalin addressed to the family. He also called the family over phone and expressed his condolences.
Addressing the reporters, MP Kanimozhi apprised that DMK will stand with the family and also provide legal aid, if necessary.
She pointed that Tamil Nadu is in the second position in India in terms of lockup deaths. "So far, none involved in such acts have been convicted. And, this situation needs to be changed. I have also written to the Human Rights Commission of the issue, today", told MP Kanimozhi.
