Coimbatore: A Russell's viper, one of the most venomous snakes, that was caught at a home in Kovilmedu, gave birth to 35 snaklets after it was captured.
Manoharan, a resident of Thilagar Street in Kovilmedu spotted a snake hidden inside a bathroom at his house.
Subsequently he informed snake catcher Murali who arrived at the location and caught it. The snake was identified as a Russell's viper. Murali captured the snake in a bag to take it to a wooded area in order to release it.
However, around an hour after it was captured, the snake started delivering its progeny. Astonished by this Murali, left the bag alone and waited. Nearly two hours later, he discovered the snake had delivered 35 snakelets.
Following this, Murali informed that he would be releasing the mother snake and its litter in the Sathyamangalam forest area this evening.
The highly poisonous Russell's viper is an viviparous species that gives birth to young ones by hatching the eggs within its body.
