Mettupalayam farmers happy as Southwest monsoon picks speed
Coimbatore: Farmers are happy as the Southwest monsoon has started to intensify in Mettupalayam with heavy rains in the evenings. Situated very close to the Western Ghats and the forests of Kerala, Mettupalayam usually receives heavy rainfall during the monsoon.
The onset of monsoon began two weeks back in Kerala and Mettupalayam did not receive any rainfall. As the farmers feared there could be less or no rainfall, the Southwest monsoon has started lashing in Mettupalayam and its surroundings for the past two days.
Farmers are happy as there were moderate showers for two to four hours in the evening which is optimal for farming. The public are delighted by the prevailing monsoons and the cool weather after the scorching heat during the long summer.
