COVID-19: Tamil Nadu alarmingly ascends to highest single-day spike of 3,509

Across Tamil Nadu, new 3509 infections were reported by the State Health Department on Thursday, surpassing the previous day's single-day record. This is the first time that the tally has breached the 3,000 mark in the state since the onset of the pandemic. TN state blew past its previous record by nearly over 1,000 cases, just in a 24-hour period.

As the case numbers climb, districts other than Chennai such as Madurai, Ramanathapuram, Salem, Theni, and Vellore, among others, have started sporting more positives as well.

Meanwhile Chennai continues to steadily hold its status quo of being the major breeding ground of the juggernaut virus. With 1,834 fresh cases reported in the capital over the last 24 hours, the city count soared to 47,650.

The death toll in the state also climbed to 911 after 45 COVID-related deaths were reported today (16 private/29 govt).

While the Nilgiris registered 2 new positives, Tirupur recorded 7 cases.

On the brighter side, a total of 39999 patients have been discharged so far in the state after recovering from COVID-19, including the 2,236 who were sent home today after successful treatment.
