The hope of FlyDubai airlines commencing its cargo operations at Coimbatore looks very bleak since the management has cancelled the flights consequently for the fifth time.

The Air cargo complex at Coimbatore caters services to various places, both in the domestic and international sectors. SInce there aren't many international flight operations due to the COVID crisis, the cargo complex, with the help of bonded truck operations and in association with various international airlines, helps sending the cargo booked at Coimbatore to be transported by road to Chennai and Bengaluru airports and from there to various nations.

In the past, FlyDubai announced cargo operations between Coimbatore and Dubai and a host of other destinations, but ended cancelling them citing "commercial reasons.' This upset many businessmen and industrialists in Coimbatore. Recently FlyDubai announced its services from Coimbatore again, but unfortunately this has also been cancelled.

Coimbatore International Airport director R Mahalingam said, "There is no doubt this region has huge potential both in passenger movement and cargo movement, but unfortunately FlyDubai cargo operations have been cancelled again. Since a lot of labourers from Trichy and its surrounding districts work in places such as Dubai, Singapore, Malaysia, etc, more international evacuation flight operations are witnessed in Trichy airport. At present, five flights are operated each day at Coimbatore airport."

Kongu Global Forum(KGF) director D. Nandha Kumar said,"Our association has taken various steps in getting more new flight services at Coimbatore. It is really shocking to hear the news that FlyDubai has cancelled its cargo operations for the fifth time. We have been asking for flight services to Dubai and Doha for a very long time. Hence we request the airport officials and the state government to help Coimbatore get new international services to the above destinations once the situation returns to normal."
