Coimbatore: The Madras High Court on June 24 had ordered to stop eviction of a section of houses in Kumarasamy Colony near Muthannankulam in Coimbatore. The Corporation has so far, evicted over 1000 houses in the bund area of 40 acres which has been encroached for housing purposes, several decades back.

Bringing much sigh of relief to the people belonging to a group named Thiruvalluvar Makkal Kootamaippu who have been claiming to be living there for over hundred years, they have been demanding for a patta for the place.
Several political parties, leaders including Coimbatore MP PR Natarajan stood in solidarity with the people and have been vehemently opposing the eviction. Time and again, a section of people living at encroached lands at Muthannan Kulam area have been stressing that their families have been living here for over 100 years and that their claim for patta for the land is legal ans fair.
Recently, Coimbatore MP PR Natarajan met with the Corporation Commissioner Sravan Kumar and opposed against the eviction process at this time of pandemic situation.
He also requested a meeting with the Slum Clearance Board officials headed by the District Collector.
