Coimbatore: The last rites of the 22-year-old ambulance EMD staff who unfortunately succumbed to COVID at Coimbatore's ESI hospital was carried at Aathupalam Crematorium here on Wednesday morning.
The devastated family members rushed from Dindigul to Coimbatore this morning to Aathupalam Crematorium upon receiving information of the demise from health department officials.
As patients who die of COVID cannot be shifted to other districts, the last rites were performed here.
Accordingly, the ambulance staff clad in PPE suits shifted the body of the deceased COVID victim from ESI hospital to Aathupalam Crematorium. His family members were allowed to see his body from a distance for a short while and then it was taken for cremation.
The deceased 22-year-old from Dindigul was the sole breadwinner of the family. He is survived by his mother and three sisters. It was a heart-wrenching moment when his mother wept uncontrollably in deep sorrow over the irreplaceable loss. The loss of her only son to the deadly pandemic has left the mother devastated along with other family members, friends and relatives.
