Coimbatore: A 10-year-old female elephant was spotted dead in the Sirumugai forest area. Postmortem revealed that theelephant could have died due to health issues.
The Sirumugai forest department workers were involved in their usual patrol routine in the Pethikuttai forest area within the Sirumugai Forest Range. During the patrol they sensed foul odour in the Pethikuttai Beat Mothur area. This information was immediately passed on to the Sirumugai Forest Range Officer Senthil Kumar.

A team of Forest department workers led by the Forest Range Officer Senthil Kumar conducted a search in the area and spotted a dead elephant. District Forest Officer Venkatesh was informed regarding this and a medical team arrived.
The veterinary team inspected the site and further concluded that the female elephantcould have been 10 years old. An autopsy conducted on the elephant revealed that it could have died due to health issues. The organs of the animal have been sent for further study.
