COVID-19: Single-day spikes keep hovering above 2500 in TN; 2516 positives today

Chennai: With single-day spikes that keep hovering above 2000 in the state for a number of days in a row, 2516 positives were recorded today. The overall COVID tally for the state cantered past 64,500 on June 23. With this, the TN COVID-19 tally jumped up to 64,603 today. Today is the seventh straight day that the state has reported more than 2,000 new single-day virus cases.

Of these cases, Chennai again reported the highest number with 1380 positives today.

The death toll in the state also spiralled up to 833 after 39 more virus-related fatalities were reported since yesterday(11 private/28 govt), according to the state health department.

Per the State health bulletin for the day, the Nilgiris district recorded 15 new cases and Tirupur none.

On a positive note, 1227 persons have been discharged today after successful treatment and recovery. The total of patients who have been discharged post recovery is now 35,339.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu continues to remain as one of the worst-hit states in the country in terms of coronavirus cases, but surprisingly, the number of deaths is low.
