The murder case of Udumalpet Shankar that shook Tamilnadu was given a verdict in 2017 and six people including Kausalya's father Chinnaasamy were sentenced to death. An appeal was filed by the accused in the High Court, which court acquitted the prime accused Chinnasamy and commuted the death sentences of five others to life.
The Tamilnadu Theendamai Ozhippu Munnani and Periyaristt and Ambedkarist Organisations conducted a protest in front of the Tirupur District Collectorate demanding that the TN government must prepare proper witnesses and file an appeal at the Supreme Court immediately.
At the end of the protest, a petition with the list of requests was also submitted to the District Collector.
