The Nilgiris: In a major fire accident, close to 15 shops in the busy Ooty market area were reduced to ashes, on the wee hours of Wednesday. Intial reports suggest no injuries or fatalities. However, goods have been destroyed to a tune of Rs. 50 lakhs, reports say.
According to initial reports, the fire and rescue department received a distress call in the wee hours of Wednesday after people in the vicinity saw thick fumes of smoke emanating from the market area.
The fire tenders rushed to the spot and struggled to put out the blaze. Around 15 shops have reportedly completely destroyed in the fire accident.
The trigger for the fire accident is yet to be ascertained.
