Coimbatore: The girl snatched by her parents from her husband's house after she married him in a self-respect style marriage has now stated that she was not taken back against her will by her parents, even though CCTV footage suggests otherwise. The husband has complained at the police station that his wife is under duress and had been forced to say that her parents had not taken her against her will.

On June 5, Karthikeyan from Edayarpalayam, Coimbatore and Sakthi Tamizhini Prabha of Trichy got married in a self-respect marriage, While the groom's family accepted the marriage, the bride's family refused to acknowledge it.

The marriage was registered at the District Registrar Office and the couple lived at the groom's house. On June 20, the parents of the girl and her relatives came to their house with a few mercenaries and attacked Karthikeyan and his mother Vasanthakumari and kidnapped the girl in a car.

Karthikeyan filed a complaint at the Thudiyalur Police station regarding this. The Thudiyalur police filed cases on Sakth Tamizhini Prabha's parents under six different sections including threat of murder and kidnapping. CCTV footage of the incident where the girl is attacked and dragged by her parents was also circulated on social media. The video also showed Prabha's relatives threatening Karthikeyan with canes.

The special team that was formed for this case went to Trichy and conducted an inquest during which Sakthi Tamizhini Prabha said that her parents had not kidnapped her. The police advised them to be present for the hearing at Coimbatore Court on Wednesday.

Subsequently, Karthikeyan lodged a complaint at the DSP's office. "Sakthi Tamizhini Prabha's father Sundararajan is a retired DSP and so the Thudiyalur police have shown him lenience by not arresting him, The parents of Sakthi Tamizhini Prabha have threatened and forced her to say that they have not kidnapped her. My mother's life and mine are in great danger", he stated in the complaint.
