The Nilgiris: The High Court's judgement in the killing of Udumalai Shankar's case has been met with shock and disappointment by Kausalya, wife of Shankar.
Speaking regarding the judgement she said, "First Annalakshmi was acquitted and now Chinnasamy has been released. The death sentences have been reduced to life sentences. The appeal against the release of Annalakshmi and others has also been dismissed. Why was this case given judgement in the midst of this crisis? When the whole society is in a shutdown mode, it raises doubts as to why the judgement was given out now. Similarly I would like to point out that the TN government could have handled the case with more care, in a better manner.There is a lot of difference in the way in which the government has been in contact with me when the case was at the Tirupur court and now at the Chennai High court."
She further said, "However, I have not lost my confidence in the judiciary. I will continue my quest for justice. I hope that the government will take it forward to the Supreme Court. When that happens, I will participate with appropriate legal counsel and incorporate my side in the case. I will not give up. I will fight with more vigour. Annalakshmi and Chinnasamy must be punished. That is the justice that can be given to Shankar. I will take up this legal war forward with great involvement and care to obtain justice for my Shankar."
She further questioned, "Who were primarily involved in Shankar's murder? Are the ones who received life sentences or are the ones who have been acquitted?"
"If the court deems that my parents are not punishable, then Shankar would have been alive here with me, this case would not have been necessary! I will continue my legal war and I will not rest until Chinnasamy and Annalakshmi are punished," she lamented.
